Category Archives: Memory Books
As a child and later in my teen years, I loved making my own journals to keep track of my ideas, thoughts, designs and memories and I often used writing to get through some difficult times during my life. In those days, I used A3 project books which were pretty basic and I prettied them up by covering them with wrapping paper, photos, brown paper or painted newspaper and used coloured pencils, markers, paint, calligraphy, lettering and fabric to decorate my pages and photos.
So…when Stampin’ Up! announced the launch the This and That range, I was pretty excited as these products bring back so many memories of how I used to scrapbook. Even more exciting…there’s no need to wait for the new catalogue…This and That is available through my online store NOW! I’ve ordered mine and it’s on its way and I can’t wait to share my work with you.
In seven days, I will start the Michelle Bridges 12 week body transformation program and I am going to use my journal to keep track of my journey. Every week I’ll post a page of my journal that represents a week of the ups and downs of this life changing journey. I’m so excited about this program and am so ready to take back control of my health and wellbeing. What better way to keep track of my progress…through my love of papercraft.
Ok…enough about me…to check out the exciting This and That range, simply click on the pic below.
Well…this one took me longer than I thought but I finally finished the next two pages. I made my own DSP for this one using the three main colours, Tangerine Tango, Daffodil Delight and Rich Razzleberry and the fabulous stamp set, Betsy’s Blossoms. This is one of my go to sets and I just love it. There are also a few sneak peeks a from the Seasonal Catalogue which is due for release on Feb 1 and the lovely Tangerine Tango Stripe DSP is a sneaky peek of one of the Sale-a-bration gifites. Woo hoo…only 1 sleep to go.

Hi ya peeps
I’ve been very quiet over Christmas but I have been very busy creating. I’m working on a big project, a sweet baby album for a friend and I’m busting to give it to her. This is my first album and I’m so excited about how it’s coming along. It seems like it’s taking me forever but I am busy with so many other things at this time of year I’m fitting it in where I can. I’m also taking my time with it as I want each page to be something truly special. The book will have 13 openings, 1 for each month as well as an opening to share newborn moments. So…rather than wait for the book to be done and pop all of it up at once, I thought I’d share as I go. Here is the first opening which is the welcome to the little one page.

Yep…I do have the new paper trimmer – thought you might ask. And while I’ve got you… I just have to say it… This paper trimmer is, by far, the best I have ever used!!! I have been through around 8 and am with most of them. Three are completely useless because of one reason or another, one broke about the third time I used it and I didn’t get the chance to return it. Another broke the first time I used it and I did return it – Not happy Jan!! One cuts crooked, one is my old Stampin Up one and it’s had a pretty good work out and the other is my large Dahl rotary paper cutter. That one is in an entirely different league and I use it mostly for workshop and class prep. I love it too!
You know when you find a product where you can really tell that someone has sat down and thought about all of the things that annoy them and then design it so those annoying features no long exist? Bit like the Dyson vacuum cleaner actually. Well that’s what Stampin Up! has done with this little beauty. Here a video so you can see for yourself.
Now…back to the book…sorry…got a bit too excited about the trimmer there eh?? Here’s the second page…
I’ve made the album basics using envelopes and using an accordian binding made from Polka Dot parade. I had no idea what I was doing but managed to get it together. I would have liked the binding on the other side but as I’ve decided that this is my year to not take things soooo seriously, no biggie.
Do you like the tags made using the stamp set A Fitting Occasion? How cute is the little elephant?
I started with Floral District DSP to give me an overall colour theme of Lucky Limeade, Tangerine Tango, Daffodil Delight, Rich Razelberry, Baja Breeze and Rose Red. I’m going for three colour combos in each opening. The DSP will tie it all together. I’ll also be using co-ordinating patterns from other packs, including Sale-a-bration and new Seasonal catalogue sneak peeks so be sure to look out for those. I’m using Early Espresso to break it up – mostly where I’m stamping sentiments as I think it gives a much cleaner look. And lastly…Whisper White which I’m using for photo space.
Check back tomorrow, I’ll be posting the next set of pages for the first baby month. One of my favourite colour schemes…Rich Razelberry, Baja Breeze and Rose Red.
When Stampin’ Up! asked me to run the Simply Scored Product Playground table at my first convention this year I was absolutely floored. As part of the playground, I was asked to make some projects using the simply scored to show off the versatility of this fantastic tool. I made a few items, some I have already shared with you, the wedding favour holder, scrapbook page and the little house. I still have a couple more to go but this one is by far my favourite of all.
When I started planning this project, I wanted to make a paper dolls house? Don’t ask me why! There are only boys in my house so maybe I needed some girly stuff at the time. So…for inspiration…I surfed the internet for ideas as you do, of course! I googled ‘paper dolls house’ and I found a cute vintage 360 degree pop up dolls house book. The concept was exactly what I was looking for but then I stumbled upon this more modern concept and decided this was definitely it! There is a tutorial to make this but it is quite large. I resized mine so that 1 piece of 12×12 card could be used as a cover. It’s about half the size and it took me several prototypes to get it right but it was well worth the trouble.
Card: Whisper White, Basic Grey, Baja Breeze, Riding Hood Red, Pear Pizzazz
Paper: Twitterpated, Vellum
Ink: White StazOn, Basic Grey, Baja Breeze, Riding Hood Red, Pear Pizzazz
Tools: Paper Cutter, Simply Scored
I’ve also used buttons and brads and a number of stamp sets, punches, markers, embossing folders etc etc but you can use anything you like to decorate each page to make this your own.
As you can see, in the end I got over the dolls house idea as I decided I wanted something more useful. It took me ages to work out what I was going to do. I knew I had to use the concept but I didn’t know how I was going to decorate it. As was searching through my photos for my house project, I discovered all of my son’s school portraits. Jake is almost 17 now so I get a little nostalgic looking through his photos and I’ve been wanting to do something special with his school pics for ages. And it hit me, use the concept and turn it into a memory book.
Unfortunately, I didn’t take photos of each section or a photo of it open and tied but I will when it is returned. The Stampin Up! Office have it at the moment to share at Regionals around Australia over the next few months.
I had several demonstrators ask me for the instructions for this project and I am in the process of putting together a tutorial that will be added to my tutorial and templates page so keep an eye out or subscribe and receive updates direct to your inbox.
I hope you enjoyed this project and if you have any questions, please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
