Mosaic Madness Sneak Peek

Sneak Peek Mosiac Madness CPC ChallengeWell…I had tons of fun making this card.   I wanted to experiment with some techniques today and my aim was to create a glass tile look using the brand new Mosaic Madness stamp set and matching Modern Mosaic Embossing Folder.   For inspiration, I decided a challenge was in order and loved this layout from Craft Project Central

Inkydayz How Tos:

  • Dry emboss a piece of vellum using the Modern Mosaic  Embossing Folder (available 2 July).
  • Lay a piece of coloured card under your vellum so it’s easier to see where to stamp and using your Stamp-a-ma-jig stamp in the mosaic sections.  My aim was an old mosaic tile look, so I wasn’t fussy with my stamping.  I dried each one using my trusty heat tool prior to stamping the next as the ink takes a little longer to dry on the vellum.
  • Cut the card to size.
  • On a piece of plastic or glass squeeze out some versamark refill.  Use your brayer to cover your piece of stamped card with the versamark.
  • Cover the sheet with clear embossing power and use your heat tool to melt the powder.
  • Optional step.  Dry emboss again, lining up the previous embossing in the embossing folder. I found that this helped bring the pattern out better.
  • To make the faux washi tape, I simply coloured a piece of vellum by running the vellum across my ink pad and then used my finger to even out the colour.

Sneak Peeks:

  • You will love the versatility of the Mosaic Madness Stamp set and matching Modern Mosaic Embossing Folder (available from 2 July).  Want even better news?  Catch this awesome news in my next post!
  • The stamp set, Really Good Greetings (available 2 July) lives up to its name.
  • Run a piece of vellum across the Crisp Cantaloupe ink pad (available 2 July), smooth with your finger and, voilà, you have Crisp cantaloupe washi tape!
  • Baked Brown Sugar and Crisp Cantaloupe (both available 2 July) make a lovely combination for the tile panel

Pursuit of Happiness

Live in the Sunshine

As you can see, I’m working on a collection of cards for my next class and I love this set of sentiments!  pursuit of happiness

It’s Autumn here in Australia and as we move into the colder months, this sentiment reminds me to get out and live in the sunshine each and every day.  Whilst Winter can be cold in Canberra, the gorgeous blue skies and sunshine just about every day of the year well and truly make up for a few months of cold.

I’ve used another sketch challenge for inspiration:

Summer Starfruit, Basic Grey and a pop of Island Indigo

Yellow, Grey and Indigo

Yesterday, I stumbled upon a fabulous new blog through pinterest (yep…I’m addicted!) and I took some inspiration from a stunning card made by Keisha Campbell.  Her work is beautiful and I love her photography – I sooo wish I could take photos like her. Photography lessons are now on my bucket list.  Check out her card here.

Inkydayz tips:

  • I’m loving the grey and yellow trend that I’m seeing everywhere at the moment.  Add a pop of Island Indigo and you have a match made in heaven.  My colour inspiration comes from this photo I found on pinterest – I prefer more of a mustard yellow and Summer Starfruit fits the bill perfectly.

  • Vellum stamped with Black Stazon makes a lovely change for a sentiment, don’t you think?

  • If you missed the Vine Street embossing folder during Sale-a-bration, there a plenty of others you can use instead.  Check out the range here.

  • Combining patterns is all the rage right now.  The Summer Starfruit geometric pattern from the Pinwheels On Parade Simply Scrappin Kit works beautifully with the stamped Basic Grey stripes.  Ihe Island Indigo floral butterflies from Twitterpated bring it all together.
  • A vintage faceted button threaded with linen thread and tied in a bow, adds a sweet finishing touch.

Stampin Up! Oh Hello Bundle

I’m currently working on a collection of designs for my next class using the gorgeous Oh Hello stamp and framelits bundle.  This is my absolute favourite set in the Occasions catalogue and I’ve loved playing around with the collection, along with a number of other new products that are featured on this card.

Oh Hello Bundle

  • Daffodil Delight and Pacific Point rocks it in the colour stakes.
  • The NEW Borders Scoring Plate for your Simply Scored is a cool tool that allows you to add interest to plain card.  Cut with the matching Framelits to give you a professional finish.

Border Plate and Framelits

  • Sunshine and Sprinkles Chevron DSP as background keeps this design on trend.

  • Make a flower using the Creped Filter Paper.  Here’s HOW:
  1. Layer a rectangle piece of Creped Filter Paper on a piece of copy paper and punch out around 10 scallop circles.
  2. Mix up about 6 drops of Daffodil Delight with Isocol (available from your local chemist) in one of your Stampin Up Spritzers and spray each piece liberally to build up your colour.  Fast drying dye – awesome!
  3. Cut each scallop towards the centre on every second scallop leaving approx 5 mm in the centre.
  4. Gently crumple each scallop, then lay them all on top of each other.
  5. Pierce the centre with your trusty paper-piercing tool.
  6. Pop a 4.8mm brad through to hold them all together.
  7. Gently crumple each layer and arrange to cover your brad until you are happy with how your flower looks.
  8. Use the brad to attach the flower to your sentiment panel.

Hearts a Flutter Class

Well…what a wonderful day I had today!  I just love classes and today’s Hearts a Flutter Class was so much fun! I made three clean and simple cards designs for the class so that the focus could be on the Hearts a Flutter stamp and framelits bundle. The great news is that the group got their creative mojo happening and changed things up by using the new embossing folders, the border scoring tool, alternative sentiments and working with different placement. Their creations were simply stunning.  The sad news is…I forgot to take photos so I can only show you the original designs.  But you get the picture.  Hopefully…you too can use these designs to get your creative mojo going.

Hearts a Flutter Class1

  • A piece of Raspberry Ripple Stitched Ribbon tied in a knot brings everything together.
  • A strip of basic grey is punched using the scallop ribbon border punch and adhered to the DSP so only half of the strip is peeking out from behind the DSP.
  • Each heart is layered using dimensionals with the final sentiment layer layered on a stack of thin dimensional pieces.  I love how the sentiment looks like it’s floating.

Hearts a Flutter2

  • The large Raspberry Ripple heart contrasts beautifully with Very Vanilla and Basic Grey pulls it all together.
  • Heart a Flutter 3Pool Party, Raspberry Ripple and Basic Grey all make their mark in the shape of a heart on this card.  The small Basic Grey heart adds a little something extra to bring attention to the sentiment.

Stampin Up! Supplies for all three cards

Welcome… Twitterpated, Pleated Ribbon and Adorning Accents

This week I thought I’d try another new paper challenge to welcome our soon to be launched Stampin’ Up! stars, Twitterpated, Pleated Satin Ribbon and Adorning Accents Edgelits Dies.  This one is a sketch challenge from Paper Players and I really enjoyed this layout.

I have used the hostess set Up in the Air from the Summer Mini Catalogue and  this is the first time I’ve inked up this set and I just love it.  I’ve used Chocolate Chip to ink up the stamp and then used my Stampin’ Up! markers, Pear Pizzazz, Lucky Limeade and Blushing Bride to colour in the flowers.  Love this colour combo.  When I finished, I felt that something was missing around the bottom right hand side of the image and tried a few things, buttons, ribbon, brads  but nothing seem to work.  What do you think?  Do you have any ideas?  Leave a comment and let me know.  Speaking of comments, don’t forget to enter my blog candy giveaway!  All you need to do is leave a comment to win.
